You should start by seeing a doctor, because you have to be crazy to want to invest in the stock market right now!
Seriously, don’t go into the stock market now, you’ll lose your money.
The stock market is very volatile at the moment. You should stay away from stocks until the market is more stable. Stocktrade.com is legit, but you should get professional advice first. Gold is a safe investment.
Scottrade is legit but I think the real question is why do you want to invest in stocks? There are many reasons to do so but if you want to make the investment decisions yourself than you have a whole lot of homework to look forward to. If you look at it as a hobby where you might make some money than I don’t see any harm in it.
If you plan on being a passive investor I would recommend that you consider using ETF’s or index funds. There are also some very good active money managers around if you have at least $50,000 to invest.
Scottrade is GREAT. They are very reasonably priced and offer some great tools. Yes, they are totally legit – one of the best. NOW is the time the start buying. Because of how poorly the markets are performing, consider each share that you buy today “on sale”. Stick to solid companies that you know are going to be around for a while. I really like Caterpillar (CAT) and obviously a lot of the financials are pretty cheap right now. I also really like Wells Fargo. I’ve been buying it since its was in the $40s and now its around $12-$15. They will survive and do well in the future. As for the benefits, if you buy now, and hold onto it for a while you should be able to make some serious money.
Oh, and don’t listen to the folks above…now is the time to buy. Why would you want to wait for the prices to go back up before you buy? Remember, buy low, sell high. Sure, you may lose a little bit now and again..but consider everything to be about 75% off right now. If you saw a 75% off sale in a store wouldn’t you buy more or would you wait until it was only 50% off?
Although we are on the verge of another Depression if Obama keeps doing what he’s doing (keynesian economics) it is still a good time to invest. “Buy low, sell high” At this time stock prices are low, and when they start to rise you’ll investments will be showing a lot of profit. I would recommend buying into large companies that are not on the risk of going bankrupt. (Dell, Mac, RIMM, General Electric) If you do buy stock, the value might go down, but you don’t lose money until you sell it. So I personally think the best bet it to buy some reliable stock, wait it out, then see a nice profit. And yes online stock investors are legit (scottrade, etrade, ameritrade) If you are new to buying stock you should check out its a stock market simulator where you can buy and sell stock (w/ fake money, and its free) hope this helps
regular dividend income, growth potential
Yes. You can open an account through an online brokerage.
Investing in the stock market has many benefits, which primarily is a great opportunity to experience a large capital gain on your initial investment. You can invest for long term growth and earn a dividend on your investment or you can trade stocks for short term potential gains. Either way there is risk involved and the investor should do the appropriate research. In regards to your question, Scottrade is a valid and legitimate stock broker however is considered a discount broker. I do not use them, I personally do my trading using TDAmeritrade. This company offers excellent research tools and order execution is phenomenal! I highly recommend using them, and take advantage of there free online and local seminars.
Do lots of research. There are some good buys and also some bad buys. The people who do best buy in when the market is worst. The people who do worst buy in when the market is best.
